Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut in television shows as Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in Roseanne, an ABC comedy Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not allow her to act until she was an adult due to the impact stress might have on their daughter. Perry states that she did not want to perform in high school, but she decided to begin playing as a way to make friends at Northwestern University when she switched to it from Boston University. Perry started her acting career in New York after graduation, getting small parts on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, the feeling of homelessness made Perry come back to California and pursue a career as a stage actress. The Other Place was performed by her and her mom on Broadway in 2013. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie with her in 2015. Perry was a part of nine episodes of the ABC drama The Family. Her father played her on The ABC drama Scandal. That same year she appeared as a younger version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a youthful version. She got the part through an open audition despite being connected to the persona.
